Bringing people together and transforming public space through light-based art

01 // The Organization

Who We Are

Nightlab is a nonprofit organization that advances nighttime placemaking through light-based art. We light bridges, produce the Portland Winter Light Festival, and utilize art, community and infrastructure to enhance Portland’s nighttime identity.

Morrison Bridge lit FOR Dolly Parton

Nightlab is lighting the Morrison Bridge in pink for three nights beginning August 28, in memory of Dolly Parton, who passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2026. Dolly’s warmth, generosity and singular voice touched people across generations, and landmarks around the country, including the Empire State Building, are joining in tribute with pink lighting of their own. We’re honored to add Portland’s own gesture of remembrance, using the same light-based storytelling that anchors our work, to celebrate a life that brought so much joy to so many. Rest in power, Dolly.

Willamette Light Brigade is now Nightlab

After months of reflection, collaboration and creative exploration, we’re excited to share a new name and identity for our organization. Willamette Light Brigade is now Nightlab.

This new name reflects who we are today: an organization advancing nighttime placemaking through light-based art.
